I've been designing web products and online services for over a decade. I'm a proponent of user-centered design and would very much like to talk to you about things like rapid prototyping, living styleguides, content strategy and usability testing.

I'm an accomplished designer and have had the privilege of working with lots of great clients over the years. Recently, I've been working on improving government services.

nidirect Portal — Discovery

The scope of this project was to create a central location for Northern Ireland citizens to use web services, interact with government and keep in touch with their local communities.

I designed a modern, modular UI system which could be extended as the applications using the portal are onboarded.

Travel App

Kainos is a large organisation with a mobile workforce. To make travel easier, I researched and designed a mobile application that would handle requests and itineraries.

Student Awards Agency Scotland

Modernising the process of applying for student bursaries in Scotland.

I was responsible for ensuring the new service met the needs of all students.

Vello Systems Inc.

User research, UI design, prototyping, front end development

My role was to work with engineers to design and develop new ways of planning, commissioning and maintaining high-speed, high-capacity links between data centres with our optical and electrical networking equipment.

As lead designer of Vello Systems’ Application Framework, I was involved in all aspects of User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) design for Vello’s web products.

Defra — Countryside Stewardship

User research, wireframing, content design, prototyping

Working with a Defra Product Owner and a GDS usability tester, I designed and developed a series of prototypes.

We worked in fortnightly design sprints and tested several iterations, refining the design and content inline with user feedback. I developed a JavaScript library to persist user’s data.

nidirect — Personal Learning Record

At the age of 14, school children in Northern Ireland will be given access to the PLR system. It will allow them to create a lifelong record of their qualifications and achievements.

I designed and prototyped a feature that allows users to create digital resumés and share them securely with potential employers.

Burpy

Branding, UI design

Burpy is a grocery shopping and delivery service based in Texas. I worked with the founders and engineers to create and refine the customer journeys.

After an initial engagement in a UX role, I rebranded the service and led the UI design and front end development.

Ripple

Branding, competitor analysis

I worked with Dr Jo Hewitt on the branding of Ripple, a provider of high quality, affordable educational and psychological support to children, parents and professionals.
